Ovuplan - Using Ovuplan

Urine Tests

Urine tests are ideal for women with regular periods as you need to know your cycle length in order to determine the best days for testing each month.

Urine tests detect an increase of luteinising hormone (LH) in your urine. Normally, about 1 or 2 days before the middle of each menstrual cycle, the level of this hormone will increase suddenly. This is called the LH surge.

Ovulation

Urine Tests

Usually, an egg is released from the ovary 24 to 36 hours after the LH surge. This process is known as ovulation. The released egg can only be fertilised during the next 24 hours or so.

Your most fertile time only lasts for a relatively short length of time each month.

In order to maximise the chance of becoming pregnant, it is recommended that intercourse takes place within 2 days after you detect your LH surge.

Float the strip in your urine sample with the arrow marked section submerged. Be careful not to get the result window wet.

  4. The pregnancy test - STEP 4

Read the result between 5 and 10 minutes. As the test begins to work, you may notice a pink flow moving across the window. It is important that the background is clear before the result is read.

Reading and interpreting the result

No LH surge

No LH surge

If there is no line in the test region or the colour of the test line is lighter than the control line, the LH surge has not yet begun and you should continue to test daily.

If the colour of the test line is more intense or equivalent to the colour of the control line, the LH surge has been detected. Ovulation should occur within 24 and 36 hours.

When should I start testing with Ovuplan Pregnancy Planning Kit?

To find out when to begin testing, you need to determine the length of your normal cycle. This is the number of days from the first day of menstrual bleeding to the day before the bleeding begins again.

Take the first day of bleeding as Day 1 and mark it on the calendar. Use the ‘when to begin testing calculator' to determine when you should start testing.

NOTE: If your menstrual cycle is typically longer than 35 days or shorter than 21 days, you should consult your doctor for the recommended day to start testing. You may test at any time of the day at your convenience; however, you should test at approximately the same time each day. Using your first morning urine is not recommended and you should reduce your liquid intake in the 2 hours before testing.

Saliva Tests

About three days prior to ovulation the level of oestrogen increases dramatically and reaches its peak during the day of ovulation.

High levels of oestrogen result in a ferning pattern, which can be observed in a dried sample of saliva when viewed with a microscope.

How does OvuPlan Scope work?

The OvuPlan Scope mini-microscope is a scientific instrument with a lens which magnifies your sample of saliva.

By comparing the image of your saliva in the viewfinder with the images provided in the instructions you can determine your hormone activity and your most fertile period.

Re-usable

Saliva tests are ideal for women with irregular cycles as the device is reusable, meaning that you can continue to test every day of your cycle in order to detect your fertile period.

How to use OvuPlan Scope

Watch our how-to video below, or scroll down for our easy step-by-step instructions

To ensure an accurate image, you should refrain from smoking, drinking, eating and brushing your teeth for about 3 hours before using Ovuplan Scope. The best time to test is first thing in the morning, before having breakfast and before brushing your teeth.

  1. Step 1
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 1

Focus the device by looking through the purple coloured side of the device towards a light source and rotating one side around until the symbol ♀ is in focus. Once focused, remove the clear plastic symbol sticker from the lens on the white coloured side. The device is now ready to use.

  2. Step 2
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 2

Dip a clean finger into the pool of saliva under your tongue. Touch a full drop of saliva onto the surface of the lens on the white coloured side.

IMPORTANT: Do not touch the lens with your finger or smear the saliva onto the lens as this will affect the result. Try not to overflow the surface and ensure there are no bubbles of saliva on the lens.

  3. Step 3
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 3

Allow the saliva sample to dry for 15 to 20 minutes. If the saliva is not dry, you may need to leave it longer (up to 1 hour).

Reading and interpreting the result

  1. Step 1
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 4

Hold the purple coloured side of the device to your eye and look through the lens towards a bright light source (but never directly towards sunlight).

  2. Step 2
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 5

Compare the image seen through the device to the patterns provided in the instruction leaflet.

You can record your results using a camera, e.g. a mobile phone camera. To do so move the camera up to the lens on the purple coloured side of the device, point towards a light source until you can clearly see the results and then take a photo. This allows you to create a record of your ovulation cycle.

  3. Step 3
How to use OvuPlan Scope - STEP 6

Clean the lens with the enclosed cleaning cloth. Store the device, cleaning cloth and the product leaflet in the enclosed velvet bag. The device is ready for next use.
